The focus of this monthly workshop is to calm the mind through the use of the gentle floor poses of Restorative Yoga, Pranayma (breath control), and deep relaxation. Restorative techniques will sooth the central nervous system, disabling the "fight or flight" mechanism, kicking in the "relaxation response.”
This hour and fifteen minute workshop begins with 10 minutes of very gentle yoga stretching followed by a guided deep relaxation and Yoga Nidra. It concludes with a guided meditation on the breath. Students should be able to sit and lie comfortably on the floor.
Ever have an injury that just doesn't seem to heal? Maybe the problem is just below the skin. In this workshop we will use a self massage technique using two Yoga Therapy balls. We will work the entire body from head to toe. This is very important as our entire muscular/skeletal system is encased by fascia. This connective tissue is strong and lubricated when healthy and keeps the muscles in place. It is what keeps us from overstretching. When it becomes dry and tight it severely limits our range of motion and can cause pain anywhere in the body. Through the use of the therapy balls we will begin to rejuvenate the fascia and muscles. This class is good for all level students. Most of the sequences can be done either at the floor or wall, but a couple of the sequences will require lying on the floor.
As the year and decade comes to a close, take the time and space to access deep levels of active relaxation through Restorative Yoga and Sound Bath. The combination of these practices lead to a state of receptivity in which all levels of the body can open to healing.
We will begin with a short asana sequence accessible to all levels. Kathryn will set you up with supporting props in a renewing sequence of Restorative Yoga poses coupled with guided Pranayama. While resting in the supported postures, Divine J9, will guide you through a sound bath meditation with her singing bowls, tuning forks and magic. A gentle yet powerful experience for the mind and body.
